Acclaimed American singer-songwriter John Prine died Tuesday of complications from the coronavirus at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. He was 73.

The singer’s wife and manager, Fiona Whelan Prine, announced the news on Wednesday, saying: “he could not overcome the damage this virus inflicted on his body despite the incredible skill and care of his medical team.”

On March 17, Fiona revealed that she had been tested positive for the virus after they had returned from a European tour.

The acclaimed singer-songwriter was hospitalized last month after experiencing sudden coronavirus symptoms and was placed in the ICU for 13 days.

Prine, who for five decades wrote and performed songs about the struggles and stories of normal people is songs such as “Angel from Montgomery,” “Sam Stone,” and “Hello in There”.

He is also known for his extraordinary portfolio of folk-country classics that changed the face of modern American roots music.

It is worth mentioning that the novel coronavirus, which was first reported in Wuhan, China, has infected more than one million people and killed over88,570 worldwide. It also hit a number of celebrities and top political figures around the world.

On March 11, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared coronavirus a global pandemic as the new virus has rapidly spread to more than 800,000 people from Asia to the Middle East, Europe, and the United States.

Transmission of viruses between humans happens when someone comes into contact with an infected person’s secretions, such as droplets in a cough.

They can also be transmitted by coming into contact with something an infected person has touched and then touching your mouth, nose or eyes.

It is known that older people appear to be more vulnerable to the effects of the emerging virus.

Several Arab countries have tightened restrictions on movement and travel, with the aim of curbing the spread of the Coronavirus, and some have pledged billions of dollars in economic stimulus programs to reduce the economic repercussions of the crisis.

The virus caused complete paralysis in all activities and events with large gatherings worldwide due to concerns over the spread of the virus.
