Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Khaled Abdel Ghaffar inaugurated the 6th Cairo International Innovation Fair 2019.
The event is organized by the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology and is expected to be held for the next two days.
Abdul Ghaffar expressed his happiness to participate for the third consecutive year in the activities of the exhibition, amid the constellation of heads of institutes and research centers, stressing that the exhibition has become an annual forum for all innovators in Egypt and the region.
He explained that the exhibition embraces all innovators, reflecting the great interest of the political leadership in supporting young innovators in conjunction with Egypt assuming the presidency of the African Union. The African Union has been chosen as the guest of honor of the exhibition this year and the launch of the slogan "Africa innovates", pointing out that this exhibition is held this year with the participation of more than 26 countries .
The minister reviewed the developments witnessed in the exhibition over the past five years, pointing out that the total support provided by the Academy to support the innovations of the winners amounted to 5.5 million Egyptian pounds.
"About 1940 innovations, 6,000 visitors and 255 awards, pided between prizes and grants, were registered at previous exhibitions," he added.
"Up to 14 winners were endowed with a total funding of 3 million pounds through the National Program for Technological Specialized Incubators Program. The number of visitors to the social networking page of the exhibition reached approximately 2.5 million visitors annually," The minister pointed out.
Also, 19 winners qualified for the fourth phase of the Cairo TV Innovation Program, in its second season, and six champs won seven gold, silver and bronze medals were selected to travel to the Geneva International Fair 2019 at the Ministry's expense with a total funding of LE 170,000.
Mahmoud Sakr, President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT), Amr Abdelaziz, Counselor at World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Nevin Gamea, Chief Executive Officer of MIDA, as well as Hussain Al Mahmoudi, CEO of the Sharjah Research were among the attendees.
