Abdel Dayem: Folkloric Arts Lost One of Pioneers

Dr. Enas Abdel Dayem, the Minister of Culture, along other cultural bodies and sectors are mourning Mahmoud Mahmoud Reda, one of the founders of Reda Folkloric Arts Group, who passed away on Friday 10 July at the age of 90.

Abdel Dayem said that the late artist Reda is one of the legends of folkloric arts, adding that his designs expressed the distinctive spirit of the Egyptian performing arts.

The late succeeded in spreading the  Egyptian folkloric arts in all over the world; his group became an international group. It also acted as an ambassador of Egypt's soft powers.

The minister mourned Reda saying “May God bless him and make his soul rest in peace, giving patience to fans and students.”

It is noteworthy that Reda was born in 1930 in Cairo. He graduated from the Faculty of Commerce at Cairo University in 1954. He founded Reda Folkloric group with his late brother Ali Reda.

The late developed many dancing designs that were presented to the world. He participated in many cinematic works presented by with the participation of Reda troup and others.

The late artist also rotated around several countries in the world, conveying a clear picture of the Egyptian customs and traditions in the various governorates.

His credibility has appeared in his designs. He succeeded in changing society's perception of the field of the folkloric arts.
