Abbas Stresses to Blinken Importance of Putting End to Israeli Attacks

Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas spoke with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke with on Wednesday, stressing the importance of stopping the Israeli attacks on our Palestinian people.

Abbas had "stressed the importance of stopping the Israeli attacks on our Palestinian people everywhere, and putting an end to settler attacks and the aggressive Israeli measures against our people."

Addressing the United States and Israel, the President demanded an end to the occupation, today and not tomorrow, asserting that "the Palestinians will not leave and will remain a thorn in the eyes of the occupation."

"They will not leave their homeland, and will not commit the crime of becoming refugees and displacement of 1948 and 1967."

Moreover, he affirmed that "the Jerusalemite families in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood will not leave and will not rest," stressing that "security and safety do not come with the power of arms and oppression."

On his part, Blinken said on Twitter: "I spoke with President Abbas about the ongoing situation in Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza."

"I expressed condolences for the loss of life. I emphasised the need to end rocket attacks and deescalate tensions," the US top diplomat added.

A statement from State Department spokesman Ned Price added that "the Secretary also expressed his belief that Palestinians and Israelis deserve equal measures of freedom, dignity, security and prosperity."
