On Saturday, at least, 48 people were killed and 97 others were wounded in armed tribal clashes in El Geneina city, the capital of Sudan's West Darfur state.

These recent clashes fueled fears to slide into something like the bloody war that broke out in Darfur in 2003, killing more than 300,000 people.

According to a number of eyewitnesses, the conflicting tribal groups used machine guns and heavy weapons in the clashes that took place around two refugee camps, pointing out that tension still prevails in the city despite the announcement of the curfew.

The West Darfur Doctors Committee expected the death toll to rise, noting that the medical personnel are doing their best to provide medical care to the injured people in light of the extreme difficulty in movement and a shortage of anesthesia and nursing staff.

Moreover, the committee also explained that there are many cases that need urgent surgeries in light of a great shortage of health personnel.
