At least 35 persons were killed in a gun attack in Plateau state, Nigeria, media agencies reported on Friday.

The Nigerian authorities told reporters that at least 35 village men were killed in the attack on Tuesday night. They added that attackers moved from one house to another to kill residents and destroy their properties.

Furthermore, attackers destroyed a bridge in the state which hindered police officers to reach the scene earlier to control the attack.

The governor of Plateau state Simon Lalong described the attack as a "barbaric act," adding that more than 10 persons were arrested as suspects.

Lalong also highlighted that the state has imposed a curfew to prevent any other attacks, in addition to giving the authorities the opportunity to look for the attackers in the village or near villages.

He said: "It will also enable security agencies to deploy appropriately to maintain security as they search for the attackers of the villagers continues."

Recently, Nigeria faced a significant increase in the number of gun attacks, in addition to kidnapping acts.

Two weeks ago, five buses were attacked by gunmen in Rukuba road which left behind 22 persons killed.
