3 players who disappointed fans worldwide at 2018’s World Cup

1) Neymar

A lot of Brazil’s hopes rested on the shoulders of the 26 year old Paris St.Germain sensation. Brazilian fans looked for Neymar to lead his team into the late stages of the World Cup, which could hopefully had lead to Brazil reclaiming the prize for the first time since 2002. Brazil however exited the Mondial after a grueling 2-1 defeat to Belgium in the Quarter Finals. Of the 350 minutes that Neymar played at the World Cup, he spent 14 minutes of that on the ground.

Instead, Neymar spent most of his World Cup campaign rolling on the floor in agony while team mate Philipe Countinho steals the show.

2) Robert Lewandowski

His national team Poland’s group consisted of Japan, Senegal and Colombia was one of the most evenly balanced in the tournament but Poland were expected to beat the likes of Japan and Senegal to a place in the round of sixteen. This relied heavily on their all-time top goalscorer, Robert Lewandowski, to find the back of the net but this was not the case.

Despite playing every minute of Poland’s World Cup campaign, Bayern's goal machine didn’t manage a single one.

3) Lionel Messi

The only accomplishment separating Lionel Messi for the title of greatest of all time is leading his nation to world cup glory, this looked to be Lionel Messi’s last chance to lead Jorge Sampaoli’s men to World Cup glory after losing agonisingly to Germany in extra time in 2014’s final.

After 675 minutes of World Cup football without a goal, he finally scored against Nigeria in the group stage. Messi produced another two assists before Argentina was eliminated following a 4-3 defeat to France.
