ASE (Rosatom State Corporation Engineering Division) successfully finalized three construction tenders and signed contracts in 2019, in which over 10 Egyptian contracting companies participated.

The tenders were awarded to three Egyptian companies; Petrojet, Hassan Allam, and Arab Contractors, according to a statement on Sunday.

The tender for the execution of the works' complex during the preparatory period for the construction of the site facilities at El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plan (NPP) was awarded to Petrojet.

The tender for construction of the Pioneer base, buildings and structures of the Earthworks Base and the Drilling and Blasting Area for El-Dabaa NPP was won by the company Hassan Allam Construction, while the vertical leveling of sections No. 1, 5, 8 will be carried out by the company Arab Contractors.

The El-Dabaa NPP project is being implemented according to the approved schedule.

ASE plans to put forward one tender soon in 2020 as part of the implementation of the El-Dabaa NPP project. The tender will respectively address the tasks of vertical leveling of a part of the construction area, leveling of the main construction site, pits, networks, and roads.

The State Corporation pays close attention to implementing a local supply chain, ensuring the participation of local enterprises in developing the NPP construction project.

Contractors are selected based on competitive tenders, which are held under the company’s standards of maximum fairness and transparency.

Meanwhile, ASE Vice-President Grigory Sosnin, who is leading the El-Dabaa NPP construction project, said: "localization is extremely important to us and carries a competitive advantage, which is why we make sure to attract local suppliers in all our foreign projects."

"Our goal in Egypt is to achieve up to 20% of localization during the construction of the country’s first nuclear power unit."

"This level is expected to grow with each new unit as Egyptian companies gain expertise. Tenders are important because, firstly, they help us choose the best contractors in the local market and, secondly, they stimulate competition and improve the quality standards of services and equipment in which Egyptian companies operate," he added.

About the El-Dabaa NPP

The El-Dabaa NPP will be the first nuclear power plant in Egypt. It will be built in El-Dabaa city in Matrouh province on the shores of the Mediterranean, about 130 km northwest of Cairo.

The nuclear power plant will consist of four power units with a 1.2 GW capacity each, installed with Generation 3+ VVER-type reactors (water-cooled water-moderated energy reactor).
