The second edition of the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development, which kicked on March 1 under the rubric of "Shaping Africa’s New Normal: Recovering Stronger, Rebuilding Better" with the participation of African leaders, senior officials, and heads of governments, has concluded Saturday.

The concluding session included a speech delivered by the President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Felix Tshisekedi, in which he expressed his appreciation to President Abdel Fattah El Sisi for his keenness on holding the forum, which provided a favorable opportunity to discuss ways to overcome the coronavirus pandemic and promote sustainable peace and development in Africa.

On his part, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry delivered a recorded speech before the concluding session of the second round of the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development, saying that despite the holding of the Aswan Forum online, all African leaders paid great attention to the forum, which confirmed the importance of the forum.

Shoukry added that Egypt has worked on cooperating with the African leaders to confront challenges facing Africa to build a better future for the African peoples.

He added that the Aswan Forum, in the past five days, tackled several issues facing the African countries to document the relation between sustainable peace and development as well as discussing ways to overcome the unprecedented crises the continent is going through at all walks of life

On his part, Director General of Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding Ahmed Abdel Latif reviewed the conclusions of the second session, which focused on several axes related to confronting the health, social and economic repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic.

He also added these conclusions will be translated into specific activities that contribute to enhancing the capabilities of African countries to deal with new risks.

It is worth mentioning that the forum included 15 sessions coving a wide range of themes including the following: "Terrorism in the Shadow of the Pandemic: A Pressing Need for Integrated Responses", "Advancing the Women, Peace and Security Agenda During the Pandemic and Beyond", and "Addressing Forced Displacement in National Planning and Peace Processes: Localizing the Paradigm Shift to Prevention in Africa."
