On Thursday and Friday, 14 civilians were killed in the northeastern Congo, in an attack by the ADF rebels, local sources said on Sunday.

Dieudonné Malangay, a civil society official in the area told AFP that 14 civilians were killed in the forest around a village where they went to sow and harvest on Thursday and Friday.

Christoph Munyandro, a Human Rights activist confirmed by phone from Goma to AFP that 14 civilians were killed by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels, who resettled again in Abakula, in a village in Walesi Funkoto, on the border of North Kivu in Congo.

Malangay noted that the victims were surprised by the ADF rebels. The survivors came to alert the village and went to retrieve the bodies on Saturday.

He explained that the majority of the victims were from Nandi, a minority of the community farmers and traders in Beni, North Kivu, adding that their families came to receive the bodies.
