Today, July 13, marks the 93rd anniversary of the beginning of the first-ever FIFA World Cup played in 1930.
The tournament was held in Montevideo, Uruguay, at the Estadio Centenario, Estadio Pocitos, and Estadio Gran Parque Central stadiums.
This came after the South American country won the right to host the competition because the country was celebrating the centenary of its first constitution and had won the 1924 and 1928 Summer Olympics.
Uruguay won the final after it defeated Argentina 4–2 in front of 68,346 people to become the first nation to win the World Cup.
About 13 teams entered the tournament; four European, seven South American, and two North American.
It's worth mentioning that many European teams chose not to participate because of the difficulty of traveling to South America due to the Great Depression.
