WrestleMania 35 Becomes Second Highest-Grossing Event In WWE History

CAIRO, April.8 (SEE)- This year's Wrestlemania 35 host Alexa Bliss appeared in a segment at Sunday's pay-per-view from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey to announce a sold out crowd of 82,265 fans in attendance, the second highest in history after Wrestlemania 32 which hosted 101,763 fans .

WWE also announced that the event which was headlined by the first ever women's main event grossed $16.9 million, surpassing the stadium's previous record of $12.3 million set by WrestleMania 29 in 2013.

WRESTLEMANIA® SETS RECORD

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – April 7, 2019 – WWE® (NYSE: WWE) announced tonight that WrestleMania 35 broke the record for MetLife Stadium's highest-grossing entertainment event. WWE's annual pop-culture extravaganza grossed $16.9 million, surpassing the venue's previous record of $12.3 million set by WrestleMania 29 in 2013 as a sold-out crowd of 82,265 fans from all 50 states and 68 countries converged on MetLife Stadium.

WrestleMania 35 was the second highest-grossing event in WWE history, only behind WrestleMania 32 at AT&T Stadium in Texas.

As part of the weeklong WrestleMania celebration, WWE will host five consecutive nights of events at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ and Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

"WWE outdid themselves by creating an even more exciting WrestleMania than we experienced six years ago," said New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy. "The WWE Universe helped deliver significant economic results to New Jersey, and we look forward to the opportunity of hosting WrestleMania again in the future."

We now turn our attention to next year, where WrestleMania will make a historic Tampa Bay debut."

WrestleMania 36 takes place on Sunday, April 5, 2020 from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay, FL. Ticket information will be announced later this year.

History was made in the main event of WWE WrestleMania 35 when a trio of women headlined the show of shows for the first time in wrestling history. Ronda Rousey, Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair battled in a triple threat for both women's championships, which the biggest women's superstar of the year Becky Lynch won with authority.

Elsewhere on the card, Kofi Kingston hailing from Ghana became just the second African to capture the WWE championship when he beat Daniel Bryan, and Seth Rollins slayed the beast by taking down Brock Lesnar for the universal championship. In fact, seven of the nine titles defended at WrestleMania 35 changed hands.
