World Turtle Day, May 23, raises communities’ awareness of turtles' possible extinction.

Some 27 years ago, the Americans managed to save life of an old turtle which drew the world’s attention to this rare kind of reptiles.

In this context, Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) was the first American organization to call for protecting turtles’ lives.

This organization managed to save lives of more than 3000 turtles since 1990.

After that, an awareness campaign prevailed every where and some films were produced to provide beneficial information about this creature's nature.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, cartoon series “Ninja Turtles” gained worldwide success and fame.

Kids all over the world admired these little reptiles and adults started calling for saving their lives.

It’s remarkable that turtles have two lungs and their ages extend to more than two centuries.

In the time of King Farouk, Egypt witnessed a 270-year-old turtle, belonging to a rare species called “Elephant”.
