Vivienne Stern: No. of British universities in Egypt to be expanded

CAIRO, JUNE 26 (SEE) Director of Universities "UK International" Vivienne Stern said on Tuesday that a British delegation consisting of 11 British universities are currently visiting Egyptian universities ,including the University of Liverpool, which is renowned for excellence in many vital fields, and the University of Hertfordshire, which is characterized by recruitment skills in general.

In a special statement to "See", Stern said, there is a great interest of the Egyptian government in developing the file of education, scientific research, and cooperation with Britain in this significant field.

She pointed out that the British delegation has  visited 4 Egyptian universities so far, and is scheduled to visit other universities in the coming period, confirming the intention of the delegation to come out with several proposals and goals after the end of their rounds, including the establishment of branches of British universities in the new administrative capital.

Stern stressed that the visit comes within the framework of joint cooperation between the two sides, and that the British side found  the areas in which cooperation can be coordinated are clear, indicating that the British side seeks to provide quality education on a wide scale.

She pointed out that there have been discussions and negotiations for many years between the Egyptian government and it's British counterpart, pointing out that 30% of the number of Egyptian students studying the high level British curriculum, and there is a desire to increase that number.

In response to a question about the high cost of studying at British universities abroad and the inability of some financial students to pay, Stern replied that the number of scholarships will be increased for Egyptian students to help them enroll in British universities.

"We are not only helping to boost the Egyptian economy, but we are interested and in some ways helping to solve the global challenges at the moment," she said.

"The number of Egyptian students studying at British universities is not large, but we want it to be on the rise, "that can only take place through joint cooperation, and sustainable quality education," she said.
