UNWTO: Egypt is world's fastest growing tourist destination

MADRID, SEPT 6 (SEE)- The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) said in its annual report on Wednesday that Egypt is the fastest growing tourist destination in the world.

After the events that followed the January revolution and the suspension of Russian flights, the number of foreign tourists fell from 14.7 million in 2010 to 5.2 million in 2016.

However, the number of tourists arriving in Egypt jumped by 55.1 percent to reach 8.6 million in 2017.

The report pointed out that tourists favorite places such as Giza and Luxor, especially as they prefer to explore the pyramids and sphinx. Red Sea resorts also attract visitors who are looking for beach tourism and ping.

In 2016, France maintained the number one position in the most visited countries with 86.9 million tourists, Spain with 81.8 million, and the United States with 75.9 million.
