CAIRO, Nov. 18 (SEE)- The Egyptian Competition Authority (ECA) will launch the first center for merger control in cooperation with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) on November 19 in the Smart Village.

The campaign aims at preventing monopolistic practices and highlighting the importance of free competition policies in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

This comes within the framework of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the ECA and the UNCTAD.

The ECA will afford training programs, and workshops for the agency's representatives, as well as providing courses on competition models at the faculties of law, economics, and political science.

Switzerland's leading School of Management and Law ZHAW will also afford intensive training programmes touching upon international competition laws and free marketplace.

Chairman of the ECA Amir Nabil said on Saturday that the regional center headquarters will be located in Egypt for its leading role and expertise in the field.

"The coming period will witness a new set of laws aiming at protecting freedom of competition, combating cross-border monopoly practices, and guaranteeing market freedom," he added.

It is worth mentioning that the ECA played a vital role during the past years bringing a positive impact in the MENA.
