UN Honors Egyptian Female Officer for Peacekeeping Role

Lieutenant General Elias Rodriguez Filho, commander of the DRC peacekeeping force, honored an Egypt’s Captain Sherihan Abul-Khair officer by awarding her the United Nations (UN) Medal. 

Yesterday, a medal parade ceremony was held at the Force headquarters in the Congolese capital of Goma.

The UN Information Office in Cairo said, in a statement, that the officer was among 51 military personnels from around the world working in the peacekeeping force.

Egypt first joined the UN peacekeeping force in Congo in 1960. Since then, more than 30k Egyptian police and military personnels have served in 38 peacekeeping missions in 24 countries worldwide. Our of them, 41 lost their lives in peacekeeping operations.

Meanwhile, about 3200 Egyptians are working with the UN peacekeeping forces in Congo, Mali, Darfur and the Central African Republic.
