TV weather presenter faces racism in Belgium (with video)

CAIRO Sept 10 (SEE): A 29-year-old weather presenter on the French-language public service broadcaster Cécile Djunga’s faced racist abuse for a whole year. She is considered Belgium’s only black TV presenter.

One of the racist and hatred comments she received was a complain from a woman saying that the TV presenter is too black and people can only see her clothes, this incident sent Djunga’s to the edge.

 

 

She posted an emotional video on Instagram which was later watched by nearly 2.1million people.  She told the Observeron, “If I knew it was going to go viral I would have made it shorter and done my hair."

“It doesn’t stop. I’ve been doing this job for a year and I’m fed up of getting tonnes of racist and insulting messages," on the verge of tears, Djunga’s said in her video, “It hurts because I’m a human being."

 

"The racists are a minority. Belgium is behind ,but it can change," she added. The Belgian prime minister’s responded to her message saying that TV presenters should not be targeted over the colour of their skin.
