CAIRO, Sept 3 (SEE) - A scientific research conducted by a student at the Faculty of Engineering and Materials Science (EMS) of the German University in Cairo (GUC) shows the ability of using ceramic waste in manufacturing concrete as an alternative for cement.

Mohamed Tarek Al Hawary, who had a master's degree at civil engineering program, said the reason behind his research is that he found that about 30% percent of ceramic waste is not being utilized. He stressed that this waste is a wealth which should be invested and reused in the field of construction.

Hawary pointed out that the advantages of recycling ceramic waste are reducing the economic cost of construction, increasing the local production from raw materials and turning the waste from a burden to a profitable source.

"The idea will save foreign currency for the state and could be used instead of non-renewable sources like cement and stones," he added.
