CAIRO, Dec. 11 (SEE) - The American University in Cairo (AUC) is working currently on a project for developing and beautifying the water tank tower in the New Cairo city and transforming it from a concrete block in a desert area to a beauty scene added to the place.

The project came within an initiative from the AUC to serve the community and solve its problems, as it always did.For this goal, an agreement was signed between the university and Tameer company as well as New Cairo local authority.

Later, the AUC organized a competition among its students to present a proposal in this regard, and allocated one million EGP to fund the project which will be implemented by the winners.Several proposals were presented, among them, 7 were shortlisted and evaluated from a jury which included university professors and officials so as to eventually select three of them.‘SEE’ attended the semi final round where 3 proposals were selected and they are for the teams: Ciel, colors  of life, HRSH Architects.

The final round is due this month to choose the winner as well as presenting 30,000 EGP as awards for the second and third running teams.‘SEE’ talked to 2 of the shortlisted teams to learn more about their innovative ideas. The first team was HRSH Architects, includes 3 female students and one male student studying architecture. They are: Rana Abdel Khalek, Sara Seliman, Hana Elsheemy and Hady Eissa.

They focused on the demographic nature of the place. They thought that most of the inhabitant of New Cairo are people coming from other places, having different backgrounds. “We thought of reflecting all types of environments through windows in different architectural forms, and make a story behind each window, which is animated and gets lighted by the evening so as to be catchy for the eyes,” the team said.

The second team was Ciel.
