World Bank: Solidarity & Dignity Represents Biggest SSN Program in ME

Michal Rutkowski, Senior Director of World Bank for Social Protection and Jobs said that Solidarity and Dignity initiative "Takaful & Karama" has become the biggest Social Safety Net (SSN) program in the Arab world and the Middle East with more than nine million recipients.

This came during a meeting on Wednesday with Minister of Social Solidarity Ghada Wali.

Rutkowski conveyed greeting of World Bank Group (WBG) President David Malpass during a meeting with the recipients of the program.

On her part, Wali welcomed the World Bank officials, who recently visited El-Kobanya village in Aswan governorate.

The meeting reviewed the latest developments in the program and the plan to include the social security beneficiaries of the program to consolidate monetary support programs. The main indicators of the beneficiary database, as well as reproductive health awareness, were also discussed during the meeting.

"We are targeting 1 million women in Takaful & Karama 2," Wali said.

"In light of the economic and social improvement of millions of families, the program has been creating job opportunities for more than three years," she added.

The meeting also addressed the difficulties of unemployment, labor market demands, and the importance of associating value chains and production.

The program aims at protecting the impoverished through income support and subsidies.

World Bank is an international financial institution that provides loans to nations for capital projects.
