UK-based player SDX Energy has found more gas in an appraisal well at its South Disouq concession in Egypt's Nile Delta.

The SD-4X probe encountered 89 feet of net conventional natural gas pay in the Abu Madi horizon.

The reservoir section was thicker than in last year's SD-1X discovery well, with about the same quality, SDX said.

The results "demonstrate the significant potential we see in this area", SDX chief executive Paul Welch said. The company is operator and holds a 55% interest in the licence, with IPR Energy holding the remaining 45%.

SDX plans to complete the well as a producer and test it later this year. It is likely to be hooked up to infrastructure near the SD-1X discovery, which is set to be brought on stream by the end of the year along with the recent Ibn Yunus gas discovery.

The rig will next move on to drill a second appraisal well named SD-3X.
