Railways, roads to be established to link Egypt, Ethiopia, Sudan

SEE-August16th: Ethiopian ambassador to Egypt Taye Atske Selassie talked yesterday in a farewell press conference about joint projects which are expected to strengthen the ties between the two African countries.

There are more than one initiative to expand business relations among Egypt, Ethiopia, and Sudan.

A road that links Cairo, Alex, Khartoum, to Addis Ababa will be established in addition to a railway and a waterway path using River Nile to connect the 3 countries.

He added that Egyptian agricultural and pharmaceutical industrial companies will be opened in Ethiopia to enhance trade volume between Cairo and Addis Ababa.

After joint ministerial meetings, Ethiopia plans to train their students in Egypt to exchange experiences.

Furthermore, Selassie praised the hospitals administrated by Egyptian Ministry of Defense and hailed the effort of the country in fighting the hepatitis C virus.

His Excellency mentioned the several changes happened since new Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed started was sworn in.

The changes included making peace with Eritrea after 20 years of stand-off.

Ethiopian president Mulatu Teshome was welcomed by his Eritrean counterpart  Isaias Afwerki as if he was "a lost brother" as he described. That positively affected not only East African region but also the Middle East.

Ethiopia will reopen Port of Massawa as a part of the peace initiative between both sides.

This stands as an example for South Sudan to narrow differences with North Sudan. The Ethiopian diplomat hopes the two reaches a solution.

Likewise, Somalia is trying to make peace with Eritrea.
