Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi will visit China later this month to attend the Second Belt and Road Forum, Economic and Commercial Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Cairo Han Ping said.

Ping added that the ministers of the two countries are due to sign three protocols for joint cooperation between China and Egypt, according to Almal news on Tuesday.

He noted that the first protocol is to import dates from Egypt. The Chinese Customs authorities and the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture should finalize the text of this protocol.

Ping also pointed out that the second protocol involves putting a mechanism for joint cooperation, which is being discussed and finalized between the Ministries of Trade and Investment in the two countries, and this mechanism includes a list of projects to focus on in the upcoming period.

“A memorandum of understanding was signed to implement the cooperation plan agreed last year at the China-Africa Cooperation Forum (FOCAC) on the fulfillment of eight key projects to develop cooperation with the African continent in the next three years in the fields of manufacturing, infrastructure, trade, health care, culture and others,” Ping said.

He added that the recent memorandum of understanding is currently being finalized, and is scheduled to be signed between the two ministers.

Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady announced in mid-January that President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi received an invitation from his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping to attend the Belt and Road Initiative's summit, set to be held in Beijing in April.

Bilateral trade between China and Egypt

Ping noted that bilateral trade between China and Egypt hit a record high of $13.87 billion, which he described as “very good”

He added that the rate of Egyptians imports to China has developed in recent years, and these imports with Beijing reached $1.8 billion.

"These rates are a good increase, especially in terms of (the welcome) agricultural products in the Chinese market," Ping said.
