WELLINGTON, Mar.20 (SEE)- TVNZ Radio announced that Prime Minister of New Zealand Jacinda Ardern has called for a two minutes of silence to be observed this Friday, marking a week since the Christchurch terrorist attacks.

"To acknowledge this, there will be a two-minute silence on Friday. we will also broadcast nationally via TVNZ and RadioNZ the Call to Prayer," she added.

"I know from many, there is a desire to show support to the Muslim community as they return to mosques, particularly on Friday," she said, adding that there is also a passion amongst New Zealanders to show support and solidarity with their friends and beloved ones, who lost their lives in the "alien" assault.

This came during a press conference in Christchurch on Wednesday.

Ardern noted that the exact timing on the minutes of silence and Call to Prayer will be determined this week.

Up to 50 Muslim worshipers have been killed and dozens of others injured, last Friday, after Australian terrorist Brenton Tarrant opened fire targeting two mosques in New Zealand’s Christchurch.
