Mother’s Day Celebrations World-Wide, Weird Traditions

CAIRO, March 21 (SEE)- While Egypt is celebrating today Mother's Day, Here is timetable of celebrations in other countries and the most weird traditions.

Egypt was the first Arab country to celebrate that day in 1956.

Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria celebrate that day yearly on the last Sunday in May.

People of Sweden observe this occasion on the last Sunday in June and this day is considered an official vacation there.

France honors mothers on the first Sunday in June and families use to having dinner outdoors and present special desserts to mums.

In the United States, celebrations take place yearly on 2nd of May which is considered an official vacation too.

During celebrations, American people raise up flags on top of public and private buildings.

In Mexico, celebrations are held on 10th of May, while in Ethiopia celebrations lasts for 2 or 3 days after winter season ends.

South Africa, Canada and Australia selected the second Sunday in May to celebrate mother’s day.

On their part, Japanese organize “My mother” exhibition that implies kids’ drawings for their mums, besides holding other touring exhibition every 4 years.

In both of England and Ireland, people observe that occasion on lent’s 4th day.

India’s celebrations called “Darja Barja”; a name of a saint in Hindu beliefs who fights evil and ceremonies usually last for 10 days in October.

Australia’s people wear white outfits to honor dead mothers and colorful ones to celebrate that day with their live mums.

Finally, Yugoslav people have their own distinct traditions over 3 days, as in the first day, fathers tie their kids then release them after conceding their allegiance.

On the 2nd day, kids tie their mothers till they bring them sweets and last day is father’s day during which children tie their father till he promise to bring them new clothes.
