CAIRO, AUG, 9 (SEE) The Beni Suef archeology area started on Thursday to develop the area of the Meidum pyramid to attract more tourists.

Gamal El-Samtawi director of the Antiquities of Central Egypt said the development work included changing the wooden ladder leading to the entrance to the pyramid, in addition to cleaning and repairing the funerary door of the temple and the door of the 17th mastaba.

He added that the development work also included the work of new guidance boards in Arabic and English, in addition to the renewal of wastebaskets in the area.

On the other hand, Omar Zaki director of Beni Suef antiquities said that the three terraces pyramid was built during the reign of King Sneferu in the fourth Dynasty (2620 BC).

"The pyramid was intended to be a graveyard or a false pyramid rather than a cemetery for Sneferu," he added.
