In Loving Memory of Hind Rostom

CAIRO, AUG 8 (SEE) Hind Hussain Murad Rostom is one of the most prominent Egyptian actresses in the Golden Era, mostly know as Marilyn Monroe of the Arabs and the queen of seduction.

She was born in the district of (Moharam Bek) in Alexandria in 1929 to a police officer father who separated from her mother in her early childhood.

She studied at the school of Saint-Vincent de Paul and moved to Cairo in 1946, where she managed to sign a contract with the United Film Company who gave her a small role with Yahya Shahin in Flowers and Thorns.

Rostom has become the most famous and the most attractive star in the Egyptian cinema after working with director Hassan Imam, who benefited from her multiple talents and assigned her to prominent roles.

She managed to change her seductive identity in other films such as Bab El Hadid (Iron Gate) and (Emra'a Alal Hamesh).

Among her other well-known films were (Love Rumor) and (Struggle on the Nile) with international star Omar Sharif.

She has never worked for theater and has won many awards for her film (Coward and Love) in 1975 then she decided to retire in the late 1970's.

Many institutions honored her, including the Cairo International Film Festival in 1993.

At the beginning of her artistic career, she married director Hassan Reda and gave birth to her only daughter Passant. Her second marriage was with the well-known doctor Mohamed Fayyad.

Rostom died on 8 August 2011 at the age of 82 after a long struggle with illness.
