CAIRO, Nov. 17 (SEE) - Higher Education and Scientific Research Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said on Saturday that Egypt and Russia have deep and unique ties in various domains, especially in the fields of science, innovation, and technology.

Abdel Ghaffar was speaking during the Arab forum for graduates of Soviet and Russian universities, held at Cairo Opera House from November 17 to 22, in the presence of Russian Ambassador in Cairo Sergei Kravchenko, Armenian Ambassador in Cairo Arman Issagaliyev, and President of the Egyptian Association of Russian and Soviet University Graduates Sherif Gad.

"About 178 Egyptian students study in Russia and up to 6,000 others in all the states of the Soviet Union," the minister said, adding that Cairo is interested in boosting the scientific cooperation through increasing scholarships.

"Russia offers 110 scholarships to the Egyptian students," he noted, adding that Egypt is keen on benefiting from these scholarships and increasing their numbers in the domains of computer science and physics.

"Egyptian universities are still proud of the distinguished Egyptian scientists who studied at the Russian and Soviet universities," the minister highlighted.
