CAIRO, Sept. 30 (SEE) - The Mohamed Hassanein Heikal Foundation for Arab Journalism, an organization that has dedicated the past 11 years to improving the professional standards and skills of journalists in Egypt and the Arab world, proudly announced on Sunday the recipients of its second annual journalism prizes.

The awards ceremony was held today on the occasion of Mohamed Hassanein Heikal’s birthday to recognize and encourage the achievements of talented young journalists and to celebrate excellence in journalism.

In attendance at the private ceremony were a number of prominent public figures, distinguished members of the media, and Minister of Social Solidarity Ghada Wali.

This year the Foundation awarded prizes to three journalists, Ahmed El-Derini, Marina Milad and Mohamed Khayal, in recognition of their outstanding work and their ability to act as role models for their peers.

The monetary prizes awarded to the journalists are worth EGP 200,000 each.

“This celebration is about the core of Ostaz Heikal’s true belief that we must look to the future without forgetting the important lessons of the past. It is up to these talented young journalists to understand the past and take us to a better future,” Hedayat Taymour, the chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Heikal Foundation, said.

The foundation was established in 2007 with a mandate to help young Arab journalists gain exposure to the latest trends on the international media scene, and provide technical support and training for journalists by engaging in dialogue and the exchange of ideas between media professionals in the region and abroad.

The awards aim to reward young Arab journalists for exceptional work completed during the course of the year 2017. The awards are not only intended to recognize personal achievement but are also an important tool that will help journalists to innovate and develop their skills in line with the latest evolving global trends in media.
