CAIRO, Jan. 16 (SEE)- The United Nations said that almost 15 displaced Syrian children died as a result of the freezing weather and devastated living conditions at camps.
Rukban camp at the southwestern border of Syria with Jordan witnessed the most tragedy as at least eight children died there, most of them under four months and the youngest only one hour old- due to the shortage of care.
In a statement, Geert Cappelaere, UNICEF Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, stressed that the lives of infants are under threat due to health conditions that could be prevented and treated. “This tragic manmade loss of life must end now.”
Another suffering was faced by children under one-year-old in Hajin, whilst fleeing the threat of ISIS from war-torn Syria.
UNICEF called upon conflicting parties to allow for the passage of urgent medical care for the safety of refugees, warning that the same destiny is awaiting others if aid doesn’t reach them.
