No one could ever believe ranger Mathieu Shamavu would be well-known in no time only for selfie photo to change his world into fame.
Shamavu said the picture, which he claimed to be a selfie with two gorillas, was taken at Virunga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He described his photo as " another day in the office."
The image attracted thousands of people on Facebook with one user saying: "Such a fantastic photo! It’s beautiful". Thank you, Mathieu, for accepting my request, and a special thank you to you and your colleagues for helping to protect these beautiful gorillas, stay safe," another said.
Yvonne Ndege, a spokesperson for UNHCR Kenya, described the image on twitter as a "Selfie of the Year."
Ndege re-posted the image on her official account, writing: "Selfie of the Year no question! An anti-Gorilla poaching Ranger in Virunga National Park, Congo! It’s going viral. Reported this story for @AJEnglish years ago from there Didn’t get this close! What a hero! Let’s support anti-poaching in DRC #gorillas."
