CAIRO, Feb .14. (SEE) – Airbus announced today, it will end production of its flagship "A380 superjumbo''.The firm reported that  made the painful decision after struggling to sell the world’s largest passenger jet and after "Emirates" chose to slash its A380 orderbook by around a quarter. The European aerospacewhich earned plaudits from passengers but failed to win over enough airlines to justify its massive costs.

The firm start discussions with its social partners in the next few weeks regarding the 3,000 to 3,500 positions potentially impacted over the next three years.

Airbus chief executive Tom Enders, reported that the ''A380'' is not only an outstanding engineering and industrial achievement as well as the  passengers all over the world love to fly on this great aircraft. Hence today’s announcement is painful for us and the A380 communities worldwide.

In Thursday's statement, Airbus announced it would deliver the last 14 A380's to Emirates, over the next two years, adding that the airline had ordered 70 smaller planes from the manufacturer.

Airbus had been forced to slow A380 production in recent years before warning in January 2018 that the programme could be scrapped if no new orders came in.

Just days after this announcement, the company appeared to get a lifeline with the latest Emirates deal, but last month Airbus admitted the airline might now be reconsidering.
