The European Union member states have agreed to a Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed decision not to impose further inspection measures on guava imports from Egypt, the Ministry of Agriculture said on Thursday.

The PAFF Committee decision came in an official letter sent by the Trade Representation Office in Brussels to the Ministry of Agriculture, according to a statement by the ministry's official page on Facebook.

Minister of Agriculture Ezz-Eldin Abu-Steit said the PAFF Committee decision came after explanations by the Egyptian Agriculture Quarantine Authority on check-ups imposed on crops before export.

"Those measures satisfied the EU side in consultative meetings held recently with the Egyptian side," said Abu-Steit.

"Egypt's agriculture exports enjoy a widespread fame in the world," said the minister, adding that contacts with other parties are still ongoing to open new markets.
