Egypt’s Tarek Momen Claims CCI International Squash 2019’s Title

MUMBAI, Jan. 13 (SEE) – Egyptian squash champion Tarek Momen won on Saturday the CCI International 2019. The tournament took place from 8 to 12 January, in Mumbai, India. Runner-up was Egyptian Fares Dessouky.

Both players showed brilliant performance at the final match. Momen claimed the first game by a result of 11-7. Dessouky won the second by 7-11. Momen revenged winning the third by 12-10, but Dessouky did not lose hope and won the fourth by also 12-10. The champion turned the table and snatched the fifth and decisive game by a score of 11-7.

Egyptian players Maezen Gamal, Karim El-Hammamy, Mohamed Reda, Youssef Ibrahim, Marwan El-Shorbagy, and Omar Mosaad also participated in the tournament.

Gamal lost to Indian Vikram Malhotra in the first round by 3-1 (11-9/9-11/4-11/7-11).

Throughout the second round, Indian players stood out against Egyptian ones. EL-Shorbagy was defeated by Indian Mahesh Mangaonkar, 3-0 (11-9/14-12/12-10); Mosaad by his compatriot El-Hammamy, 3-2 (11-8/7-11/11-5/7-11/11-5); Reda by Indian Saurav Ghosal, 3-1 (11-1/7-11/11-3/11-6); and Ibrahim by his compatriot Momen, 3-1 (12-14/11-8/11-9/11-8).

After losing to his compatriot Dessouky 3-0 (11-3/11-1/11-5), El-Hammamy exited the championship in the quarterfinals.
