When Japan wanted to develop 60 dams to secure the future of her citizens and to construct a tunnel inside one of the dams to carry 1,600 cubic meters of water per second, the Asian giant resorted to an Egyptian Civil Engineering Professor at Kyoto University to run the project.

Dr. Sameh Qandosh carried out the project successfully. As a result, he was awarded the best research paper by the Japan Society of Civil Engineers. He also received the same award from the Swiss Society of Civil Engineers.
