Egypt-US Trade Volume Reaches $ 7.5B

Minister of Trade and Industry Amr Nassar said in a statement on Tuesday that the volume of trade exchange between Egypt and the U.S reached $ 7.53 billion in 2018, compared with $ 5.63 billion dollars a year earlier.

He added that Egypt's non-oil exports to the United States recorded $ 1.66 billion dollars in 2018 compared to $ 1.44 billion dollars in 2017.

However, the value of Egyptian imports from the US amounted to $ 5 billion in 2018, exceeding 2017 estimates with more than a billion dollars.

"The Egyptian-American economic relations are based upon achieving sustainable development goals and obtaining the best advantage of the tremendous industrial and commercial potential of the two countries," he pointed out.

The minister pointed to the importance of interpreting the distinguished bilateral relations between Cairo and Washington at the political and economic levels.

During the next few days in Washington, the fourth round of trade negotiations between the two countries under the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) will take place.

The third round was held in Cairo in December 2017.

The Egyptian delegation will include heads and representatives of the Egyptian Customs Authority, the Import and Export Control Authority, the Organization for Standardization and Quality, the Civil Aviation Authority, as well as representatives from the Ministries of Agriculture, Trade, and EgyptAir.

President Abdul Fattah el-Sisi stressed during his visit to Washington, Egypt's keenness to strengthen the strategic partnership with the United States, to promote security and stability in the Middle East.
