Egypt, US ink agreement on developing 7 rural areas

CAIRO, Sept 10 (SEE) - Egypt and the United States, represented by the USAID, signed on Monday here an agreement on the 2nd phase of developing the infrastructure in seven rural areas through grants worth $65 million, MENA news agency reported.

The agreement, signed by Minister of Investment and International Cooperation Sahar Nasr and USAID Mission Director Sherry Carlin, includes promoting the infrastructure in rural areas in Upper Egyptian governorates, namely Assiut, Sohag, Qena, Luxor, Aswan, Beni Sueif, and Menia.

The agreement stipulates for improving water treatment, replacing old pipelines and establishing sanitation services in rural areas.

"The project will serve around 1.1 million people in conjunction with implementing the directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to upgrade the national infrastructure," Nasr said.
