SEE-August10:  A new sphinx statue was found last week buried near the Valley of the Kings while working on developing Al-Kabbash Road, according to General Director of Luxor Antiquities Mohamed Abdel Aziz.

The newly discovered sphinx is the latest treasure imparted by Luxor’s ancient Al-Kabbash Road. The road links between famous Luxor Temple and Karnak Temple.

Abdel Aziz said that lifting the statue from its place might take time due to the nature of the environment it is in; he added that the new statue is similar to the classical Great Sphinx of Giza.

Minister of Antiquities Khaled al-Anani invited tourists to visit Al-Kabbash road to see the new discovery.

The project is expected to be finished by the end of 2018, according to Al-Anani.

Head of the projects’ sector at the Ministry of Antiquities, Waheed Abou el-Ela said, "The road will be paved to allow easy access for visitors in addition to moving utilities like electricity and water. The project includes the development of the floors, the completion of the excavation and repairs to the collection of Al-Kabbash, ram-headed sphinxes, in the warehouses followed by re-installing them."
