Egypt to Meet Qatar at World Handball Championship

Copenhagen, Jan.12 (SEE) - The Egyptian national team are scheduled to meet his Qatari counterpart on Sunday as a part of the 2019 IHF World Men’s Handball Championship.

The championship started on January 10 till 27, held in Denmark and Germany.

As Egypt were drawn in Group D, along with Sweden, Hungary, Qatar, Argentina, and Angola, Egyptian players are going to face Argentina, Hungary, and Angola on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, respectively.

On Friday, the Egyptian team lost their opening game to Sweden 27-24, at the Royal Arena in Denmark. The first half ended in 13-11 to Sweden. Almost three minutes before the match’s end the result was 24-24. Although the Pharaohs showed great performance, Sweden managed to turn the table and ended the match 27-24 in their favor.

Egypt highest achievement was in the 2001’s edition when they finished fourth. Sweden, on the other hand, won the tournament’s title four times: 1954, 1958, 1990, and 1999. In three editions Sweden was the runner-up: 1964, 1997, and 2001. They finished in third place in 1938, 1961, 1993, and 1995. Although the tournament was won most times by France, Sweden obtained most medals.
