Egypt’s National Railway Authority will be deploying double decker trains by the end of 2018, according to Egypt Independent.

The locally-produced trains will be installed due to overcrowding on trains heading to Upper Egypt. Abdel Rahman Hussein, head of Egypt’s Semaf Railway Factory, said that “the project aims to increase passenger load capacity from 40% to 60% on the current trains operating in different railway lines. The project is a step to ease the congestion of train vehicles, especially heading to Upper Egypt”.

Semaf Railway Factory will be creating the trains, and Hussein says that the first train will be ready by the end of 2018, and will be deployed after being tested in factory and on railway lines.

He was proud to state that the trains are 100% Egyptian, from design to manufacturing. They were designed and created by Assiut University, in collaboration with Egypt’s Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, and will be produced at Semaf Railway Factory.
