CAIRO, Feb. 13 (SEE) - For the first time, Africa will host the Grand

Prix Fencing Tournament, from 22 to 24 February. Only nine cities worldwide

used to host this tournament. However, only around 45 days before celebrating

the competition and after Mexico apologized, the International Fencing

Federation assigned its organization to Egypt.

Head of the Egyptian Fencing Federation Abdel Moneem Al Hussiny thanked

the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs for accepting to host the competition,

as it took the minister less the one hour to accept organizing such a

prestigious event.

Afterward, from1 to 3 March, the Fencing World Cup is scheduled to take place also in Egypt. More than 700 players (including the top 16) from 40 countries are going to compete at both tournaments.

In this regard, Sobhy said, “We are keen to host various sports events,”

adding that “In order to serve the national talent and the Olympic champion

project, three fencing centers were established.”

Worth noting is that the ministry is cooperating with the Egyptian

Olympic Committee to enable champions to achieve medals at the Tokyo’s Summer

Olympics.
