Egypt participates in India's Diwali festival for the first time, as Sebaiya band for religious songs will travel there to present religious shows in the festival in the presence of thousands of Indians.

Head of the External Cultural Relations Sector at the Ministry of Culture Heba Youssef said that Egypt's partaking in the popular Indian festival proved the strength of Egyptian-Indian ties in the cultural field, adding that Egypt was selected to be a guest of honour at the 28th session of the festival.

In attendance of masses, the Sebaiya religious band, led by Sheikh Hussein el Bayoumi,  presented it shows in India for a week.

The attendees expressed their passion for the band's performance, saying that they were students at Al-Azhar universities.

Diwali is India’s ‘Festival of Light’, a time when people come together to celebrate good conquering evil, light conquering dark. This celebration of new beginnings coincides with the Hindu New Year and the start of the new business year.

It’s the biggest event in the Hindu calendar, and Sikhs and Jains celebrate similar festivals at the same time as Hindus celebrate Diwali.
