Egypt Football Team Wins Gold at "Special Olympics"

CAIRO, March.19 (SEE)- The Egyptian Five a Side football team won a gold medal in the "Special Olympics" tournament currently held in Abu Dhabi. The Pharaohs reached the finals after showcasing great levels of skill, where they defeated hosts the Emirates with 3 goals to 1.

The Special Olympics competition will remain until the 21st of march and Egypt is bent on adding more medals to its name.

Before the Thursday standings, Egypt held third place among the Arab countries competing after winning 22gold medals, 20 silver medals and 16 bronze medals.

The Special Olympics World Games 2019 is currently hosted in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates for the first time in the Middle East, since the movement’s founding over 50 years ago. The Crown Prince Court led the winning bid efforts with a mission to promote positive social change for people with intellectual disabilities and create a more inclusive society.

Special Olympics is the world’s largest humanitarian sporting event and a global movement which focuses on the empowerment of People of Determination with intellectual disabilities through the power of sport.

The event is under the auspices of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, whose leadership and vision have been instrumental in bringing together public and private sector partners to be a part of this worthy cause. Over 7,000 athletes from over 170 countries will be coming to compete in a series of sports, as well as a variety of initiatives and activities held across the seven Emirates.
