CAIRO Sept14 (SEE): Dean of National Institute Of Diabetes And Endocrinology Dr. Hehsam El-Hefnawy hailed the national initiative for treating Diabetic peripheral neuropathy which is expected to raise awareness and decrease the number of amputation.
200 Medical convoy will examine and run diagnostic tests for 50,000 patients in different governorates. They will also provide free diabetes medication for those who are in need.
He said that a person loses his leg every 6 minutes in the world because of diabetes. Nearly 70% of diabetes patient suffer from this disease.

He added to 'SEE' that diabetes is caused by genetic factors which can not be changed and an environmental factors.
He advised people to start a healthy diet in addition to practicing sports because obesity is the major reason for type 2 diabetes.
El-Hefnawy also said that those who are 40 or older should take a blood test to diagnose diabetes in early stages.
Egypt has 8.2 million patients, 4 million of them are not aware of their illness.
