Culture Minister Launches 1st First Forum for Female Director

Dr. Inas Abdel Dayem, Minister of Culture launched the first forum of the Egyptian female director in various regions of the country. The event was in conjunction with the second forum of young directors.

During the opening ceremony, the minister directed concerned officials to organize workshops for young people in playwriting.

She said that the forum aims at empowering creative women and rebuilding the culture of societies of different environmental nature.

The Ministry of Culture opened a new gate of innovation into the Egyptian theater by encouraging young playwrights in various regions.

The second forum of young directors, which carried the slogan "Theater for the Public" was held in the culture palace of Anfushi. It was during this event that the officials in the Ministry of Culture announced the beginning of the first forum of the Egyptian female director.

The event was organized in cooperation with the National Council for Women, headed by Dr. Maya Morsi last August to empower creative women.

Dr. Abdel Dayem commissioned the General Organization of Culture Palaces, headed by Dr. Ahmed Awwad, to implement and set up workshops in writing and theatrical texts for young people starting from the new season.

She also delivered 69 awards of the final festival to the winners from 14 governorates: Alexandria, Dakahlia, Ismailia, El-Gharbeya, Beni Suef, Qena, Menoufia, Giza, Damietta, Port Said, Fayoum and Kafr El-Sheikh.

The minister said that "Theater for the Public" came as one of the activities of the Ministry of Culture's plan aiming at achieving cultural justice and spreading enlightenment in various governorates, and allowing talented young people to express themselves and show their abilities in the art of the theater through a competition.

She noted that the establishment of the Egyptian female director's forum contributes greatly to the reconstruction and development of the cognitive and cultural aspects of some societies with various environmental and geographical nature.

She emphasized the role of women as a major component in creative work, assuring the importance of Theater in shaping societies and setting values as one of the elements of the behavior refinement and raising conscience.

The minister added that theatres are avenues where artists express their dreams and aspirations. Afterwards, the minister honored a number of icons of the Egyptian theater including the great writer Yosra El Gendy, a great designer, artist Hussein El Ezby and Dr. Mahmoud Nassim.

On his part, Dr. Ahmed Awad, head of the General organization of Culture Palaces, praised the decision of the Minister of Culture to organize the Egyptian female director's forum.

He assured that this theater season has produced many young talented artists, describing them as creative cadres for the future of the theater. He explained that the participating Troupes in the three festivals were 46; they were chosen out of 312 troupe during the activities of the 44th Edition of the final festival of the regional Troupe took place in Tanta Cultural Center.

It is worthy of note that the jury members included Dr. Mohamed Shafi'i, decorator Mohammed Hashim, critic Mohammed Mosaad, Dr. Mohammed Samir Khatib , Dr. Ziad Yousef, critic Rami Abdel Razek, Hazem Kafrawi, writer Sameh Osman. It is worth noting that the jury of the final festival of the regional Troupes in the cultural center in Tanta included the great director Fahmi Khouli, Dr. Mustafa Sultan, critic Ahmed Abdel Razek Abu Ela, critic and writer Yusri Hassan Wal Nan Karim Arafa.

The ceremony began with launching recommendations of the three concluded festivals, followed by delivering prizes to winners.
