CIIF 2018 Wraps Up with 90 Winners

CAIRO, Nov. 14 (SEE)- The 5th Cairo International Innovation Fair (CIIF) has concluded this week announcing 90 innovations as the winners of its 2018 round.

Dr. Mahmoud Saqr, President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, announced the prizes that exceeded more than EGB 1.5 million in total.

The awards were presented by the Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research, the Egyptian Knowledge Bank, the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency and the Japanese Science Stimulation Group.

A total of 60 medals were accorded including; 22 gold, 20 silver and 18 bronze medals as well as cash prizes of EGB 65k for schoolchildren, university students and inpiduals.

Four projects were co-sponsored by EGB 200k each including; a solar powered taxi/boat, agricultural insects sting, a dietary supplement “Sliminar” and a natural pigments manufacturing innovation.

Saqr pointed out that the academy will provide 6 grants for participation at the Geneva International Innovation Fair and the Asian Science Forum.

“Three of the grants were awarded to graduation projects of the Faculty of Engineering at ‘Mataria,’ Faculty of Sciences at Al-Azhar University and the Egyptian-Russian University. The other three grants were given to technological start-ups,” said Saqr.

The grants are valued at EGB 250k and cover tickets, subscription fees and pocket money for the six winners.

The Innovative Child Award cash prizes were won by 10 children.

The academy presented medals to the participating countries. The gold medal was awarded to the honorary guest South Africa. The National School of Commerce and Management in Morocco received the silver medal and the bronze medal was for Oman.

The “Science and Society” pavilion presented awards to series and short films. Al-Azhar University’s series won the golden medal and a cash prize. Dr. Barakat Hassanein, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the University, received the award.

The second place was equally shared by a 3d photography glass creating and “Good Earth” show. The bronze medal was for the short film “Idris Court.”
