CAIRO, SEPT 4 (SEE): The British Embassy in Cairo bid farewell to 60 of Egyptian Chevening scholars studying for their master’s degrees in British universities.

This year marks 35 years of the Chevening program in Egypt which helps more than 1,200 Egyptians.

Past scholars include former Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Ziad Bahaa El-Din; Vice Minister of Finance for Fiscal Policy Ahmed Kouchouk; Former Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Rwanda and the new Legal Council of the African Union, Dr. Namira Negm; AUC economy professor Dr. Hania El-Sholakamy; and Head of EGX Mohamed Farid.

Deputy Head of Mission Helen Winterton said: “As we celebrate 60 of Egypt’s brightest minds embarking on a once in a lifetime educational experience, we are also celebrating a growing partnership between Egypt and the UK in the field of education. Today’s Chevening scholars are tomorrow’s top doctors, engineers, teachers and scientists.  We know that Egypt’s greatest strength is its bright young brains. That’s why we have increased our investment in Chevening scholarships in Egypt by 250% in the last 4 years, to meet growing demand.”

Nine scholarships were funded by Misr Al-Kheir Foundation, BP Egypt and HSBC Bank this year.
