Antiquities Min. Opens 4th Annual Forum for Archaeological Missions

The antiquities minister Khaled Al-Anani opened 4th annual forum for the archaeological missions in Egypt today 22 April. This forum started in 2016 and was organized by Antiquities Ministry to present the results of the different archaeological missions’ work in Egypt.

Leaders from Antiquities Ministry and institutes and foreign archaeological missions’ heads attended the opening forum in the Ministry building at Al-Zamalek City.

Al-Anani said, “This forum provides an opportunity to let the missions meet together to share experiences in archaeology fields and to share the results of digging works in Egypt.”

The forum included 23 papers; 9 are from foreign institutes’ research, 9 are from foreign missions’ research and 5 are from the Antiquities Ministry mission’s research.

The minister mentioned that the numbers of archaeological missions increased because of security and safety around the whole country. The number of archaeological missions reached to 250, there were missions from 25 countries around the world, 80 missions from Egypt representing one-third of active missions’ number in Egypt.

These Egyptian missions were pided into 40 groups from different Egyptian universities and 40 others from Antiquities Supreme Council.

The Director Manager of antiquities registration center Hesham Al-Leithi said that every mission that participated in the forum presented posters of their works’ results and researches. France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Austria, USA and many other countries participated in the forum.

The forum events started with archaeology professor at Cairo University Ola Al-Ajizi's presentation of Cairo University mission’s results, Saqqara area; the Egyptian antiquities sector head presented works of the mission at Al-Matareya area.
