CAIRO, Sept 8 (SEE) - Antiquities Minister Khaled Anani inspected on Saturday the work progress of restoring the southern cemetery of the Djoser Pyramid in Giza’s Saqqara necropolis.

In statements, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities Mostafa Waziri said that the southern cemetery was discovered in 1928, MENA news agency reported.

For his part, Director General of Saqqara archaeological area Sabry Farag underscored that the cemetery has a gate from the southern side which leads to a 28-meter deep well where a small burial chamber built of granite is located.

The burial chamber has many corridors containing paintings of King Djoser wearing white and red crowns.
